Other prominent chatbots include Gemini (24%), Copilot (17%), and Meta AI (14%). Data security is a major concern, with approximately seven in ten US adults believing AI will compromise personal information security. A vast majority (63%) also feel that AI is advancing too quickly, compared to just 2% who think it is too slow. This indicates a general unease with the pace of AI development and its potential consequences.
Non-Users and Regulatory Trust
Among the 50% of US adults who do not use AI chatbots, a substantial 67% express no intention of starting within the next year. The primary reasons cited for non-use include a lack of interest (60%), concerns about personal data usage (54%), and distrust in chatbot accuracy (45%). Age plays a significant role here, as roughly three-quarters of adults aged 65 and older are non-users, compared to about one-third of those under 30.
Confidence in government and companies to effectively regulate and develop AI responsibly is also low. Two-thirds of US adults have little to no confidence in the government’s ability to regulate AI, a figure that has increased from the previous year. Similarly, about six in ten express little confidence in US companies to develop and use AI responsibly.
